When to Repair or Replace a Damaged Windshield

You’re driving down the highway, enjoying your day and then… BAM… rock to your windshield… UGH! You’re now wondering if you need to get it repaired, replaced, or just leave it alone..

This is what you need to do:

You need to determine the size, depth, and location of where you have a crack in your windshield. When the crack is large and deep in the glass and extends to the edge of your windshield, you will most likely need to have it replaced. When the crack is smaller than a quarter, the crack is up to three inches long, and is away from the edge it can easily be repaired.

A windshield has three layers of glass: An outer layer of glass, a plastic interlayer, and an inside layer of glass. If the damage is through the outer AND inner layer of the glass, it is too deep to have your windshield repaired.

As always, an expert can better determine how the size, depth, and location of the crack will end up as a glass repair or replacement.
